The classes at the Shiva Milan Mandir have doubled in attendance over the last year as our membership continues to grow. Our classes are free of charge and are conducted in a healthy learning environment, in keeping with the goals and teachings of our guru. The huge response attests to the need for Hindus wanting to pass on their cultural values to the next generation. We at the Shiva Milan Mandir are trying to fulfill this. We are committed to making it possible for everyone to have this opportunity. Students are taught by trained individuals. Here at the Shvia Milan Mandir the youths are given the opportunity to display their talent during our weekly Sunday service. They are giving the chance to participate and display what they have been taught. The classes at the Shiva Milan Mandir are educational but at the same time the students have fun. Students participate in discussions and interact with one another. They are tested frequently and parents are advised of their child’s progress. Students are encouraged to have fun and build a bond of friendship for one another. |

Harmonium & Vocal Classes: Students in the harmonium and vocal classes are taught in three levels. Classes are structured in a professional and organized manner. Our classes are absolutely free of charge. Due to the huge response to Hindu parents wanting to pass on their cultural values to the next generation. We are committed in making it possible for every student to participate and learn as much as they can. Here are just some of the many things students are taught; Theory of music, Classical Music; Raagas, Songs, Taans, Taranas, Alaap, Bhajans and Dhoons, Chutney Songs, Movie Songs, Prayers, Timings and beats, Finger Positioning, Proper posture, Musical Terms, Cord Lessons, Various Scales, Vocal and much more... Students are taught by trained and committed individuals. Every Sunday during our weekly service students are giving the opportunity participate and display what they have been taught. Our class is very educational but at the same time the students have fun. Students actively participate in class discussions and are tested frequently. Parents are notified on their child’s progress in class and students are also given the chance to display their talents at our annual entertainment evenings. Dholak & Tabla Classes: The Shiva Milan Mandir also provides Tabla and Dholak lessons. The students in the Tabla and Dholak classes are taught in two levels. Our classes are absolutely free of charge. Students are taught various Taals and Beats as well as fill ins and timing. We are committed in making it possible for every student to play for songs with proper timing. Some of the various Taals which are taught are: Kehrwa, Roopak Taal, Ek Taal, Teen Taal and other various beats. Students are also taught finger positioning, proper posture, musical terms, fill in beats and timing. The classes are taught by trained and skillful tabla players who are regular devotees of the mandir. There is no age outline for these classes, just that you must be eager and willing to learn. There is no competition between these youths, as our goal is to help others and promote success. As the students learn and develop they are given the opportunity to participate during Sunday Service. A bit about music... Music may not mean that much to some people, but to some it’s simply a part of our lives. Music is something that enables us to strengthen our intelligence. It is in itself a healing explosive expression that touches humanity no matter what culture you are from. No matter where you are in the world there are all kinds of different music. It speaks to us in different ways, different languages and in different styles. Music can help us express our feeling in many different ways. Each piece of music is significant and unique in a different way. Whenever life has you in a tough situation, remember music is a moral law. As Albert Einstein once said “It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, Flight to the imagination, charm to sadness and happiness to everything in life. Music is the essence of order and gives beauty to life.” Remember he developed his intelligence only threw music. Without music life is simply a journey through a desert. When you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything. |
